Back in 1901, a woman named Annie Edson Taylor did something many people wouldn’t even think of. The 63-year-old teacher decided she wanted to become famous and connected to her favorite place in a special way. She trapped herself inside a big wooden barrel and asked people to throw it from the shore into the Falls.

While she did survive the ordeal, she also stated that the ordeal was so bad that no one should ever make such a bad decision as she had. There are some who have, however, followed in her footsteps. A few were successful, while others, regrettably, weren’t so fortunate.
