Kmart

Target, Walmart, and Kmart all opened their retail chains around the same time in the 1960s and were seen as banding together as three giant retail giants, but soon there may only be two competitors in the game. Kmart closed over 150 locations in 2018 and has no plans of stopping in 2019, with at least 53 closings planned already. In 2000 Kmart proudly had over 2,200 stores open throughout the United States, and today less than 200 are still open.

Party City

In a typical year, Party City usually closes 10 to 15 stores nationwide, but this year is different, with 55 stores and counting saying farewell. The world is currently facing its third helium shortage in just 14 years, which, of course, did not help Party City’s business when a big majority of their customers are coming in to buy party balloons. The retailer says the helium shortage wasn’t their full reason for closures, but rather that they are trying to focus on improving their still-profitable stores instead of helping failing ones.
