Ava believed that she never fit in, despite how well everyone treated her. She was worried that she would never find a place where she genuinely belonged as a result. She gradually lost her feelings overtime. She set aside her personal feelings in favor of the security of a long-term residence since she was happy with the thought of being with wonderful people.
