Life couldn’t be better…you just got a new puppy and everything is amazing thanks to this furry guy! Now comes the time to teach them to pee and poo outside…oh, no. Do NOT fret, potty training is much easier than you ever thought! With these approved tips and tricks from vets worldwide, you’ll have your little one trained in no time!
1. Consistency
It is so important to be consistent with your new puppy. Keep him or her on a consistent feeding, walking and sleeping schedule. They’ll learn their daily routine, and come to love it! Animals as a whole thrive on consistency, dogs especially. Take your dog out to pee each morning at 8:00 am, and it will become ingrained in them. They will become used to this time, and be expecting a walk come 8:00 am. Since your pup knows you’ll be taking a walk around the neighborhood at this time every day, he or she will be less likely to pee or poo in the house.
2. Patience
Being patient is also super important. Believe us, there will be times when you aren’t sure what you got yourself into, but do not worry. The puppy months will fly by, and so will the potty training. Take a deep breath and know that you can do this!
3. Reinforcement
Reinforcing the good habits your dog has is also super important. Negative reinforcement such as yelling or hitting are never a good idea, as they can turn a dog aggressive. Instead, positive reinforcement is the way to go, and we feel house training success is only going to work with this type of reinforcement.
Feeling a bit more confident after hearing these tips and tricks? That was our goal! Now that you have all of the necessary tools, you just need to go out there and bite the bullet! Best of luck!
